ACCESS Prep Academy

Optimal ACCESS supports nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking autistic individuals through neurodiversity-affirming education and advocacy. As demand for ACCESS Academy grows, there is a clear need for services for individuals who are not yet ready for a full academic program.

ACCESS Prep Academy was created to meet this need by providing individualized support in regulation, communication, and school readiness for students and adults, serving as a bridge to long-term success within ACCESS Academy and beyond.

OUR VISION/MISSION

ACCESS Prep Academy envisions a world where nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking autistic students are fully supported, understood, and empowered to grow academically, emotionally, and socially in environments that presume competence and prioritize regulation, communication, and connection. We believe every student deserves an educational pathway that honors their unique strengths and prepares them for meaningful engagement in both school and life.

Our mission is to equip students with the foundational tools, supports, and confidence necessary to successfully transition into ACCESS Academy’s full educational programs. Through highly individualized, relationship-based support, we prepare each learner for long-term academic success, self-advocacy, and community inclusion.

 

Prep Academy 1.0

WHO PREP ACADEMY SERVES

Ages/Grades Served:

  • Elementary school students
  • Middle school students
  • High school students
  • Adults not yet ready for full-time academic placement but ready to build foundational skills

 

Number of Students and Program Structure:

  • Initial phase target: 15–20 students
  • Students divided across age groups
  • Part-time, highly structured preparatory setting
  • Opportunities for individualized coaching
  • Opportunities for group sessions
  • Opportunities for family training
Prep Academy 2.0

OUR SPECIFIC FOCUS

  • Communication and Regulation Foundations
    Partnering with families and students to develop reliable communication through AAC, spelling, or other individualized systems.
  • School Readiness
    Introducing schedules, transitions, group participation, and academic exposure in low-pressure, high-support environments.
  • Family and Staff Training
    Offering regular coaching and modeling for families and CRPs (Communication/Regulation Partners) to ensure consistency across settings.
  • Relationship-Based Learning
    Grounding all instruction in connection, respect, and trust-building.
